Grenada
REVIEW
Grenada, like St. Lucia and Martinique, is part of the Lesser Antilles and has a volcanic origin, which gives it its mountainous terrain. Unlike other islands, African culture predominates here. This itinerary can be combined with activities such as diving and kitesurfing, among others. The availability of boats improves between June and November because this region is not affected by the northern Caribbean hurricane season. Boats based in the northern Caribbean seek refuge here during these months, offering better options. It’s important to note that this region is much less developed than the northern Caribbean.
TIPS
- Enjoy the marina at “Port Louis.”
- Explore the Sandy Island Marine Reserve.
- Go kitesurfing in the Grenadines.
- Visit the underwater sculpture museum.
ITINERARY (7 day)
DAY 1 – Grenada
Start your itinerary at the marina in “Port Louis.” Sail north to “Dragon Bay,” where you’ll have an excellent opportunity to dive or snorkel at the reef.
DAY 2 – Carriacou
After waking up in “Dragon Bay,” set sail towards Tyrell Bay in Carriacou. On the way, visit the small village on Ronde Island. In Tyrell Bay, you can visit the beaches of Hillsborough Bay or the Sandy Island Marine Reserve.
Tip: Snorkeling on the reef side of Sandy Island is excellent. It’s a very peaceful place with just one small beach bar. If you wish, you can spend the night there.
DAY 3 – Tyrrel Bay
Continuing your itinerary in Tyrell Bay, make a stop at “Salt Whistle Bay,” where you can anchor and explore the old Catholic church on the mountain top. We recommend having lunch at the beach stalls, which are known for their abundant lobster.
Tip: You can enjoy an excellent sunset here.
DAY 4 – Tobago Cays
The five deserted islands of Tobago Cays are the jewels of the Marine Park; “Horse Shoe Reef” almost encircles the four main cays. We recommend visiting Petit Tabac Island in the area, where scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed, and Sail Rock, a small island that provides an excellent diving spot. This is the highlight of the itinerary for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.
Tip: Fantastic diving spots. It’s best to book with a local school as it’s a national park.
DAY 5 – Petit Martinique
Sail north to Grenada, specifically to Petit Martinique. Here, you’ll find a fishing village famous for building sports boats. One of the main attractions of the area is the world’s smallest island, Mopion. It’s about 300 square meters, a lively postcard of the Caribbean.
DAY 6 – Prickly Bay
Enjoy your stay at “Prickly Bay,” known as one of the best anchoring spots in the Caribbean. Consider taking a hike through the rainforest in Grand Etang National Park for a refreshing swim at St. Margaret’s Waterfalls.
DAY 7 – St George’s Bay
Before returning to the Marina, visit St. George’s Bay, the capital of the island. Wander through the streets and admire its colonial-style houses. One of the main attractions to visit is the St. George’s Market Square.
Maritime Conditions
General conditions
The winds are predominantly NE-SE at 10-25 knots, intensifying around the northern ends of the islands; calm conditions are rare. Rain typically comes in squalls that can be seen approaching from windward, and these squalls often bring strong gusts. Visibility usually exceeds 10 miles, but it decreases during squalls.
From June to November is the hurricane season for the Caribbean, but Grenada is located south of the most affected area.
Historical Peak, monthly averages
Tides
In the Caribbean, the tidal range is very small: 30 cm to 90 cm (1-3 feet), including variations in sea level due to atmospheric pressure and prevailing winds. The current typically flows from the west at up to 2.5 knots.
Wheather Forecast
The customer can obtain the weather situation at any time by listening to the marine weather forecasts. Weather updates are provided every hour during severe weather.
